Calgary Confederation
Keira Gunn
Keira Gunn learned the value of unions and workers’ rights at a young age – and has fought to protect them ever since.
Keira holds a PhD in Pure Mathematics, which she obtained while maintaining her career as a university educator. During her studies, she has become a leader in the growing labour movement in Alberta and now works with unionized academic workers across the province. She takes pride in supporting and empowering some of our country’s most precarious workers.
Growing up in Hamilton, Keira’s father was a steelworker during the 90’s recession. Her family has first-hand experience of the sacrifices that union workers have made to maintain our quality of life. Protections for workers and labour rights were a regular point of discussion in her household and she is extremely passionate about defending them.
Keira knows that working families are struggling to put food on the table and pay their bills. She understands that the federal government has a responsibility to help people through this cost-of-living crisis. She’s committed to making life more affordable by reducing costs on prescription drugs, childcare, and housing in her community.
When she can find the time, you can find Keira on her bike or at the hockey rink.
Keira would be honoured to bring the voices of Calgary Confederation to Ottawa and finally put workers back at the heart of our government.
